FAQ
Do you have a textbook you no longer need? Looking to make cash
on that textbook? Don't want to mail your book away somewhere
and wait for your cash?
The University of Arizona has merged Textbook Buy Back
lists for access by students for the following campuses: Main, South,
Medical, Davis Monthan and Correspondence. This will increase the
number of used books available
for resale at all University of Arizona Bookstores at reduced prices,
and will provide more options for students to help
manage their textbook budget.
How are Sell A Book buyback prices determined?
The prices are determined by book lists submitted by instructors for the
next semester. If we know which books will be needed and we are not
already overstocked, then The University of Arizona Bookstores will pay
up to 50% of the current new book retail price, even if the condition of
the book was USED to begin with. If the instructor has not submitted an
order at the time you try to Sell A Book, then you will receive that
book's current market value (US wholesale price). That value is determined
by used book national companies and is based upon the national demand for
the book and whether or not it is a current edition.
What can I do if I find the price offered too low?
If the price is not enough you can list your book for sale
directly to other students in the Used Book Classifieds on this website. If
the book has not yet been adopted at The University of Arizona then you can list
the books, in fact, you can list all of your books in Buy-Back Alerts.
As soon as a professor adopts the title for a class
you will be notified by email of the price.
How firm is the price?
The demand decreases instantly with every sale and can
expire quickly as other students line up to sell their books.
What happens if demand expires before I get to The University of Arizona
Bookstores?
Sorry, you are out of luck. You can list the book in the Used Book Classified again and if another professor adopts the book, therefore
increasing the demand, you will be notified by email.
Do you buy study guides or CD ROMS ?
YES! As long as it has an ISBN number you can search
our database and assuming it is in re-saleable condition.
What is an ISBN?
International Standard Book Number. All books have one and each
edition of a title has a different ISBN. This can be found on a barcode on the
book's rear cover, and printed on the copyright page near the front of
the book.
Can I sell a book I originally purchased used?
Yes, you will receive about 50% of the new list price if it will be used
at The University of Arizona and between 10-15% if there is US wholesale
price value.
Does the previous edition of my text have resale value?
Not usually, and the system buys based on ISBN to ensure the
correct and most current edition is purchased.
Can I sell back books in any condition?
The decision belongs to the buyer. We want used
books not abused books and reserve the right to refuse to purchase
damaged books or books that are unlikely to be repurchased by other
students. Water damaged books including: mildew, pages stuck together,
discoloration, or more than one-fourth of the pages rippled will
be unacceptable to buy back.
Why are there not more titles on the list?
Late adoptions or a change in editions, a different book being
used on the same course are some of the reasons. Only those books
that are certain to be used the following term make it on the list. Ask
your instructors to adopt early and adopt the same book to help
increase the numbers and value of used textbooks.
